The Network Administrator position for the Boston Fire Department (BFD) will provide network and infrastructure support for the organization. This position will support a variety of technologies; the applicant must possess a comprehensive knowledge of networking, infrastructure, telecommunications and connectivity in a Microsoft environment. The person will be located at BFD’s headquarters in Boston and will report to the Chief Technology Officer. The BFD network is part of the city’s network; the Network Administrator will interact with the city of Boston’s IT department (DoIT) for issue resolution and improvements. Must be detail oriented, analytical and have the ability to solve problems. Maintain a flexible attitude towards work assignments and changing priorities. To ensure the City’s technology procurement and deployment decisions effectively serve its residents and workforce, the governance and policy programs in DoIT seek to bridge the Mayor’s vision with departmental and agency needs in the context of an evolving regulatory environment and rapidly changing technology landscape
Working closely with the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Governance and Policy will manage the development and implementation of technology guidelines, standards, and policy across the entire City of Boston, including multiple innovation and technology organizations. The Director of Governance and Policy will coordinate departmental and city wide technology standards and policies pertaining to security, privacy, accessibility, data, and other relevant innovation areas. This role will also design and shepherd city-wide governance processes that identify shared technology priorities and needs across all agencies and departments, develop appropriate strategies for prioritizing budget investments, and support the development of a user-centric IT service management plan across the entire City. The role will interface with leadership within DoIT; technology leaders across the City; the Mayor’s Team; and local, state, and federal legislative bodies activities.

The Boston Home Center (BHC) helps Boston residents purchase, improve, and keep their homes. The BHC offers training, financial help and counseling to first-time homebuyers, guidance and funding for homeowners for home improvements, and counseling to help families avoid foreclosure. The BHC also markets homes developed for income-eligible, firsttime homebuyers.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director or designee, the Program Assistant will provide administrative services to BHC’s programs, projects, and operations. The Chief Engineering Officer oversees the software engineering practice of the City: establishing standards and policies for the development and procurement of software - identifying what when should software be developed or procured, technology standards that determine interoperability of systems, improving technology development practices and implementing methodologies that improve the quality and security of software and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have familiarity implementing DevOps, continuous integration environments, data engineering, automated testing. The candidate will also have extensive knowledge of architectural patterns. The Chief Engineering Officer will work closely with technology groups across the City to support the implementation of standards, policies, and best practices. The Chief Engineering Officer will manage highly technical and skilled individuals and contractors that will benefit from learning best practices. Reporting to the Tree Maintenance Foreperson or General Tree Maintenance Foreperson, or a designee, the Tree Equipment Operator and Laborer (TEOL) will perform tasks related to the planting, removal, maintenance, and care of trees using hand and power tools, and adhering to all safety policies and procedures. Duties include planting, pruning, and removing trees and branches. He/she will also use climbing gear and equipment to climb trees with chainsaws, hand saws, and tree trimmers to complete jobs. This is labor-intensive work and requires strong communication skills to safely work with all crew members at the various job sites throughout the City of Boston.
