This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty, assisting in the supervision of the Transportation Program Planning Unit.                           

Responsibilities:

  • Recommends, develops, and implements transportation plans, guidelines, and programs.
  • Directs and approves the conduct and methodology of studies and surveys.
  • Analyzes data concerning transportation programs.
  • Responds to inquiries.          
  • Maintains liaison with government authorities and other agencies.
  • Supervises, plans, and assigns work to subordinates; determines and provides training needs for subordinate unit personnel.
  • Confers with management staff and others to provide information for program implementation.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on proposed legislation.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, and meetings.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Five (5)  years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in urban planning, regional planning, land use planning, or transportation planning, of which at least three (3) years must have been in a professional capacity, and of which at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • A bachelor's degree in urban, regional planning or transportation, civil or environmental engineering may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Possession of a P.E. or A.I.C.P. certificate is desirable.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to maintain harmonious relationships with co-workers, outside agencies, and members of the public.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

 

Terms:
