The Mayor's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) coordinates the City's homeland security and emergency management programs. OEM's Mission is to enhance the City of Boston and Metro-Boston Homeland Security Region's capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from major emergencies. Working in close partnership with Boston's public safety and public health agencies, OEM plans and prepares for emergencies, educates the public about preparedness, conducts training, exercises and drills, and performs other services to support the City and Region’s overall preparedness. OEM follows an all-hazards approach preparing for emergencies of different types - whether they be natural or man-made.
The City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) seeks a highly qualified candidate to serve as Project Director. The position is funded under the Department of Homeland Security’s Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program. Successful candidates will have strong project management, grant management, and communication skills, and will be responsible for managing components of the UASI program.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Project Director is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and managing Department of Homeland Security-funded investment areas and related projects within the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region (MBHSR) in order to promote and support the MBHSR cross-jurisdiction/cross-discipline homeland security strategy.

Successful candidates will be able to work closely with other technical staff, project stakeholders, and external partners across City government, manage diverse technologies and projects, and develop tools and best practices that can be implemented across the organization. The successful applicant will perform a variety of tasks, including analyzing and troubleshooting City technology assets. The Digital Equity Officer and Director of Broadband and Cable is a senior leader in the Department of Innovation and Technology in the City of Boston, reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer. The Department of Innovation and Technology coordinates and leads the digital equity portfolio for the City of Boston, in close partnerships with other City agencies such as the Boston Public Libraries, Boston Public Schools, AgeStrong Commission, amongst others providing critical resources for our residents to access digital resources. The Department also acts as the licensing agent for cable operators within the City, coordinates the Public, Educational, and Governmental cable channels, and operates the City’s Cable Channel - Boston City TV. The Department supports the deployment of broadband technologies and acts as the licensing agent for the deployment of wireless (small cells and 5G) applications in the right of way.
The Digital Equity Officer and Director of Broadband and Cable oversees the Broadband, Cable, and Digital Equity Office in the City of Boston’s Department of Innovation and Technology. The Officer works with the Chief Information Officer in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of the digital equity plan and enforces the provisions of the cable franchise agreements as well as the wireless network license agreements. The officer also manages the operations of the City Cable TV and supports other City cable channels and works collaboratively with the FCC, other Federal Agencies, State Agencies, Public Access Television, Internet Service Providers, Local digital equity non profits, and many other critical partners that work to connect Boston residents.

Building on the work of the city’s previous Office of Food Access, OFJ works to embed food systems and racial equity approaches into existing food access programming, and to pursue whole-of-government strategies, in partnership with GrowBoston, that leverage city resources and partnerships to shift the city and region’s food system, reduce food insecurity and address the food system’s impact on climate. This includes close partnerships with other city and state departments, along with facilitating a community of practice of organizations, businesses and entities in the city who are addressing food insecurity and inequitable food access by developing a new food system.
In partnership with the Director of the Mayor's Office of Food Justice, the Deputy Director will lead operational, planning and evaluation work, manage contracts, pursue funding relationship and identify strategic opportunities.
