Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Community Relations Specialist is responsible for creating and implementing the constituent outreach and engagement strategy for the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ+ Advancement (MOLA). This individual is responsible for educating residents, community leaders, elected officials, civic associations and the general public about MOLA and the programs and services offered by the Office. This individual will assist with communications duties and storytelling around MOLA’s mission, programs, and events. They will perform this function and related duties to ensure that the Office effectively engages and serves residents, especially the most vulnerable, and advocates for LGBTQ+ advancement and equity, furthering the Equity and Inclusion Cabinet’s mission.

The Community Engagement Cabinet leads the City of Boston’s work towards eliminating silos between residents and City Hall, ensuring that they have equitable access to neighborhood services, community engagement, and policy-making. The Cabinet is responsible for developing Mayor Michelle Wu’s community engagement strategy and distributing her policies while empowering residents to engage with their local government. Under the direction of the Chief of Community Engagement, the Director of SPARK Boston is responsible for empowering 20 to 34 year-olds to play a greater role in planning for the City’s future through the appointment and management of the SPARK Council. In overseeing the management of the SPARK Council, the Director role seeks to draw a larger and more diverse range of Boston’s young adults into the conversation to help set priorities, address City issues, and plan for Boston’s equitable, inclusive future.
Under the direction of the Fire Marshal/Deputy Chief of the Fire Prevention Division or his/her designee, the Senior Fire Protection Engineer (Engineer) will be responsible for overseeing the Fire Prevention Division’s Engineering/Plans Review Unit (“Engineering Unit”) to ensure that plans submitted for permitting and review for all new and existing City buildings or structures meet current safety requirements under Massachusetts fire codes; building codes; related federal, state or local laws and regulations; state, local and national fire protection standards; and under the Boston Fire Prevention Code. As an Engineer, you will be responsible for the review and approval of building and design plans proposed for City infrastructure, new and existing buildings and other structures, and suggest various methods based on his/her code interpretation that provide the best fire prevention, fire protection and fire suppression systems in protecting such a structure to achieve code compliance. The successful incumbent will be required to spend time with architects, engineers and building or construction professionals to gather knowledge regarding the infrastructure and construction of buildings.
He/She will act as a representative for the Boston Fire Department and serve as the Fire Commissioner’s designee and/or the Fire Marshal’s designee on various federal, state and city boards/agencies, or on boards/committees of related industry or standards organizations as directed. He/She will advise the Fire Marshal on all aspects of fire prevention and fire protection matters, and attend various board/agency meetings, construction meetings and select inspections with or in lieu of the Fire Marshal or his/her designee as determined by the Fire Marshal. The successful incumbent, according to established policies and procedures, will oversee the specific duties of the Engineering Unit, and will maintain all records for the said Unit. The incumbent will provide general guidance to all members of the Fire Prevention Division on inspections and fire prevention related matters. The incumbent will serve as the Department’s subject matter expert for fire prevention and fire protection issues.
Under the general direction of the Chief of Streets or designee, the City of Boston Streets Cabinet is seeking a highly motivated Principal Vision Zero Engineer to work on projects that will realize the City’s vision to create streets and public spaces that are safe, multimodal, and resilient. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Human Services, the Director of Communications is responsible for developing and implementing the Cabinet’s overall communications strategy.
