The Public Works Department Chief Engineer for Construction Management holds an important leadership position overseeing multiple teams tasked with maintaining and improving the streets and sidewalks of the City of Boston. In addition to providing responsive, strategic maintenance and improvement to these assets, the capital improvement projects implemented by this team execute the goals of the GoBoston 2030 Transportation Plan. This includes safety improvements for all road users, pedestrian access, bikeways, transit priority, and other improvement projects. The Construction division is also responsible for the installation of over a thousand Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps every year, and associated documentation, in compliance with a legal settlement agreement. The Chief Engineer should be a seasoned veteran in construction management, able to plan and execute a complex series of projects and contracts, as well as an excellent communicator capable of leading and building a diverse workforce. The Chief Engineer for Construction Management reports to the Deputy Chief of Streets for Infrastructure and Design and will work alongside the leaders of the Engineering and Multimodal Planning teams.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Streets for Transportation who serves as the Boston Transportation Department Commissioner the Director of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Boston Transportation Department's (BTD) field, operating and enforcement divisions which include Parking and Enforcement, Tow & Hold, Fleet, Traffic Signs and Signals and Parking Meters.
The Director of Operations will work with the Commissioner and leadership within BTD, Public Works and the Streets Cabinet to implement a shared mission of operating a safe, equitable, multi-modal transportation system designed to reduce over-reliance on single-occupancy vehicles and implement policies and procedures that reflect the City's values of inclusively, accessibility, and sustainability.
The Director of Operations will become a subject matter expert on issues such as parking and enforcement technology, data analysis tools and related assets and equipment. The Director of Operations will be tasked with implementing new processes and systems designed to modernize manual and semi-automated processes within BTD through automation, and ensure field, operating and enforcement divisions are providing an efficient, high level of customer service for the residents of and visitors to the City of Boston.

The Public Facilities Department provides professional project management services for planning, design and construction projects at City-owned buildings throughout Boston. We work in conjunction with, and on behalf of user agencies, by managing studies, renovation and new construction projects at buildings where City services are delivered. PFD manages a range of design and construction projects valued between $1M - $125M and planning projects ranging in value between $50k - $1M. PFD typically handles an overall caseload between 80-100 projects valued at more than $500M annually.
Under the direction of an Assistant Director within the Public Facilities Department, the Project Manager II for Studies is responsible for managing significantly complex feasibility, programming and siting studies for various capital building projects. The PM II for Studies will also manage land disposition analyses and processes for the Department. The PM II for Studies will normally be responsible for managing multiple projects at the same time, and will serve as a general resource to the Department advising on matters of facility planning, programming and analysis.
