Overview:

Reporting to the Chief of Streets, the Chief of Staff provides operational, managerial, and strategic support for the Streets Cabinet. This includes helping direct and support staff in achieving key priorities; helping to drive organizational change; and assisting with the day-to-day administration of the Cabinet. The Chief of Staff will coordinate with the Mayor’s Office, Office of Neighborhood Services, Intergovernmental Relations, and the Streets Cabinet Communication and Engagement team to ensure the Streets Cabinet is responsive to administration priorities. The Chief of Staff will be tasked with supporting the modernization of business processes and systems to provide an efficient, high-level of customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Chief of Streets on policy and political strategy, maximizing the leader’s impact by strategically managing their time, institutional resources, and access to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Streets Human Resources and Labor Relations on personnel matters.
  • Interviews and recommends candidates for positions, coordinates training opportunities, and supports onboarding for new supervisors.
  • Coordinates work flows with the Streets Cabinet Communication and Engagement team to develop rigorous mission and project-driven community and stakeholder engagement in alignment with administration priorities.
  • Builds a positive collaborative staff culture and strong professional development system.
  • Coordinates with Cabinet Leadership on the planning and development of the Cabinet’s capital plan.
  • Supports alignment of Public Works and Transportation Department operations and enforcement activities.
  • Supports alignment of resources to address constituent needs and basic city services.
  • Supports project and program management activities across the cabinet, with a focus on Permitting Reform, Waste Reduction and Code Enforcement, and capital project delivery.
  • Supports the development of the annual operating and capital budgets for the Streets Cabinet, the operating budget for Cabinet operations, and the enforcement units. field, operating, and enforcement divisions.
  • Facilitates regular interagency coordination with major public agency partners, including MassDOT, MBTA, DCR, Massport, and others.
  • Attends internal and external meetings, remotely and in-person.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess at least five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, management experience, preferably in the public sector, where the duties included a combination of project or program management, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with data analytics and analysis.
  • Ability to produce memoranda, letters, presentations, and reports.
  • Proficiency in modern productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work in person at Boston City Hall at least 4 days per week.
  • Ability to think strategically and lead complex projects or assignments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
