Overview:

The Public Facilities Department (PFD) provides professional project management services for design and construction projects at City-owned buildings throughout Boston. We work in conjunction with and on behalf of user agencies by managing renovation or new construction projects at buildings where City services are delivered. PFD manages a range of projects valued between $1M - $125M and typically handles an overall caseload between 80-100 projects valued at more than $500M annually.


Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Administration and Finance, the Senior Business Analyst will provide analytical support to the Public Facilities Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead business analysis initiatives that drive organizational and financial efficiency across administrative functions and financial areas.
  • Coordinate with PFD leadership, leverage data, and analyze the department’s budget in order to drive performance improvement and decision-making.
  • Partner with the Assistant Director for Administration and Finance and the Procurement/AP Manager to unlock existing data sets.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial and operational analysis to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Review and analyze the department’s budget and performance measures.
  • Work closely with the Chief of Staff and Trimble Unity Construct administrator on streamlining processes and advancing the department’s use of technology. Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to align financial planning with operational goals, serving as a liaison between Finance, HR, Procurement, and IT.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive insight into departmental operations and a deep awareness of staff requirements, enabling effective alignment of business processes with organizational objectives and employee needs.
  • Use data-driven insights (e.g., trend analysis, forecasting, KPIs) to monitor business performance and evaluate solution impact. Work to bridge gaps by recommending and configuring technological solutions, presenting findings at Senior Staff meetings, and training staff on new processes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have three to four (3-4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience working with data analysis projects in a business, government, or nonprofit setting.
  • A bachelor's degree in economics, computer science, social science, engineering, mathematics, public policy, business, or a related field is preferred and may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in quantitative and qualitative analytical thinking.
  • Demonstrated experience performing advanced statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated process improvement experience.
  • Experience using data management solutions.
  • Some experience with software configuration.
  • High computer literacy and the ability to pick up new software and platforms quickly are imperative.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Demonstrated collaborative working style that fosters teamwork, including with multiple internal/external stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills and the ability to react to problems quickly.
  • Ability to self-manage, troubleshoot, and understand when to escalate sensitive priorities and/or raise issues with executive staff/stakeholders. Other duties as required.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
