Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.


Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


Develops and interprets programs with the Assistant Commissioner of Health, and new plans and policies pertaining to
laws and codes as they apply to environmental health.

Responsibilities:

  • Interprets departmental policies and regulations for the benefit of workers. Coordinates field training activities of
    Health Inspectors.
  • Consults with public and private agencies regarding local health problems, with particular reference to food
    handler training programs.
  • Prepares periodic and annual reports.
  • Conducts hearings of violations and of health laws and codes. Prepares/prosecutes court cases.
  • Represents the Asst. Commissioner at meetings and conferences of Federal, State, and local agencies.
  • Acts as head of the Division in the absence of the Assistant Commissioner and Director.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Health and Environmental field.
  • A Bachelor's or advanced degree in public health or a related field of study is preferred.
  • Must have good knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 94 and 111, Articles 1,2,4,6,7,8,10,11 of the
    State Sanitary Code.
  • Must have outstanding ability to present oral and written reports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
  • CORI check required.

Boston Residency Required.
