Overview:

Reporting to the Commissioner or other designated employee of a higher grade. Serves as Director of the Executive Support Unit and the Executive Secretary of the Board of Review. 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for a wide array of managerial and administrative projects.
  • Manages the abatement application process, oversees and manages inter-unit workflow for the personal exemption process.
  • Manage internal and external constituency communications.
  • Oversee the handling of requests for information, prepare and coordinate the preparation of documents for public information projects, and oversee the management of data and records generated.
  • Trains and supervises staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates operations, policies, procedures, systems for processing documents and responding to inquiries, new system implementation, and processes.
  • Represents and serves as department liaison.
  • Prepares reports and manages special projects.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 

  • Five years of professional experience in public administration, business management, real estate appraisal, or a related field is required.
  • Appropriate educational substitutions may be accepted for two years of this experience.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Professional knowledge of assessing practices, particularly in abatement and personal exemption law and procedures, is required.
  • Knowledge of the MA Department of Revenue requirements and departmental standards preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of valuation methodology, including CAMA (computer-assisted mass appraisal) systems and appraisal of complex and/or specialized properties preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical, administrative, and project management skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional oral and written communication and presentation skills preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of PC environment and appropriate software application preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and meet complex operational goals in required time frames is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

Boston Residency Required.

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/MM1-8

Hours per week: 35
