Overview:

This is a Labor Service position.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under supervision, performs skilled acetylene and/or electric arc welding work for the Parks and Recreation Department and does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Lays out, cuts, and fits materials for welding.
  • Preheats and cleans metals.
  • Performs auto body repair work of all types, including straightening, grinding, and welding.
  • Performs general welding to worn gears, using acetylene and/or electric arc welding as required.
  • Ability to braze various non-ferrous metals.
  • Inspects brushes and grind welds to ensure that they are in proper working condition.
  • Sharpens and tempers tools and does some general repair work requiring the use of lathes, drill presses, and similar equipment.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have at least two (2) years paid of experience as a welder.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift in any designated area.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.

 

Pre-employment physical required.

CORI check required.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

 

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: AFSCME/RA1-12L

Hours per week: 40
