Overview:

This is a provisional appointment. 

 

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Weights and Measures, supervises all functions performed by Deputy Sealers of Weights and Measures.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the clerical activities of the division.
  • Investigates complaints, enforces violations of various weights and measures laws and regulations; trains new employees and provides training to Deputy Sealers. 
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinates. 
  • Recognizes personnel problems and division problems and recommends corrective action to the Sealer.
  • Assist the Sealer in his duties and assume the responsibility of the Sealer in his absence.
  • Performs related duties as requested.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred and may substitute for up to two (2) years of the necessary experience.
  • Applicants must have at least five years of experience as a Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures.
  • Thorough knowledge of state laws and technical requirements relating to Weights and Measures.
  • Ability to climb moderate heights, carry heavy weights up to 25lbs., and partake in strenuous activity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, and supervisors. 
  • Ability to perform early or late assignments. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is a plus.
  • Must have and maintain a valid MA Driver’s License.
  • Maintain state weights and measure certification requirements.

Boston Residency Required.
