Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general supervision, operates and has responsibility for special motor equipment requiring an operating engineer's license and/or requiring unusual skill; may supervise a small group of equipment operators and helpers, or may be responsible for the maintenance and care of small pieces of motor equipment; and does related work as required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Operates catch basin cleaning machines and supervises the work of the men involved in such cleaning operations. 
  • Operates heavy tractor-trailers, wrecker trucks, large mobile cranes, large earth movers, and power shovels.
  • Change tires and batteries.
  • Services, adjusts, and makes minor repairs to special motor equipment.
  • May supervise the work of employees of lesser grade.
  • May be responsible for the maintenance and care of a small number of pieces of equipment.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in related work.
  • Must possess any and all licenses required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety to operate any special heavy motor equipment, including a valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a Hoisting License.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Applicants must be available to work any assigned shift in any assigned location.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery or specialized equipment.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation.

Qualifications acquired on the job:

  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to park maintenance and visitor safety.
  • Ability to perform repairs and upkeep of park facilities and equipment.
