This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direction of the Commissioner and the Director of External Affairs, coordinates and implements various Park Department Marketing and Programming Unit events and activities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes, plans, and implements programs and special events for City of Boston residents and visitors.
  • Serves as the on-site manager and represents the Department at Parks Department programs and events.
  • Communicates with donors of Parks Department programs and events.
  • Manages seasonal staff.
  • Assists with fielding and directing press calls.
  • Works with Parks staff, other city agencies, and outside groups on all aspects of special event execution, including but not limited to park openings, groundbreakings, etc.
  • Procures goods and services for Department events and develops and assists in event budget management.
  • Assists and/or takes lead with: designing, creating, and editing marketing and public relations materials in various electronic media; database management; and photography.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

  • Applicant must have (a) at least four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time technical or professional experience in work which involves design, collection, interpretation, and/or compilation of research and/or statistical reports, of which (b) one (1) year must have been in a professional capacity or any equivalent combination of such experience.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license.

 

DESIRED:

  • At least three to five (3-5) years of professional experience managing programs and events.
  • Experience with fundraising and budget oversight.
  • Knowledge and experience with G-Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
