This is a provisional appointment.
 
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
 
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Street Operations, the Area Supervisor of Street Operations exercises direct supervision of the work performed by District Supervisors of Highway Maintenance, Highway Maintenance Forepersons, and Inspectors. Responsible for all work required or related to street cleaning, minor street repairs, salting, snow plowing, and snow removal in their respective highway districts. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and supervises the work performed in the various districts, which include posted street sweeping, sidewalk and roadway repairs, and dedicated lanes for multimodal transportation.
  • Performs a variety of administrative functions related to time and attendance and other personnel matters.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee..

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in highway, street and/or sewer construction, maintenance, and repair work of which one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity. 
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to direct and train subordinate personnel; to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees, private contractors, and the general public. 
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license. 
  • CDL and hoisting license preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule in support of position's duties. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

Boston Residency Required.
