Overview:

The Boston Public Library seeks to hire a Peer Navigator Supervisor to oversee the service delivery of the Peer Navigator program within the Social Work Department. The Peer Navigator program is an initiative to provide peer support to library patrons experiencing hardship related to hunger, housing instability, substance use, and mental health. The BPL defines “Peer Navigators” as people who have lived experience accessing care through social service systems and who apply the knowledge and insights gained from lived experience to connect with library patrons facing similar challenges.

The Peer Navigator Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing Peer Navigator staff and, under the direction of the Social Work Manager, contribute to the creation of a cohesive and consistent peer support service model across the BPL system. Using the principles of peer support, the Peer Navigator Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the Peer Navigator program operates in a manner that demonstrates dignity and respect for patrons, uses a strengths-based perspective, and promotes access to support while respecting patrons’ autonomy and self-determination.

The Peer Navigator Supervisor will also assist in developing and maintaining up-to-date resource guides for local social services, assist in the collection and reporting of data, facilitate events and programs related to peer support, and foster a warm and welcoming environment for all library patrons.
