Fellowship/Internship with the Department of Innovation and Technology 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Fellowships/Internships with the Department of Innovation and Technology are an opportunity to make an impact on Boston residents. We are looking for Interns and fellows that are thoughtful students, interested in municipal government. As a member of our team, you will have a direct effect on how people view Boston. You’ll also help shape the future of our City.

We’ll consider fellows and interns for the roles that best fits their experience and interests. In all of these roles, you will apply and develop your skills while working on high-impact, high-visibility projects. The following DoIT teams may participate in the summer internship/fellowship: Cybersecurity, Analytics Team, Digital Services (Digital Equity), Infrastructure, Telecommunications, Infrastructure (Service Desk) Operations. 

Responsibilities:

Our fellows/interns play a vital role in creating tangible outcomes, including:

  • Piloting different technologies and tools.
  • Connecting with constituents and staff members.
  • Testing innovative approaches to solving problems.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Oversees the day-to-day workflow of the department.
  • Completing projects and assignments in a timely manner before the project deadline.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree is required for Fellows. 
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in the IT/Tech industry.
  • An undergraduate or graduate student, or a recent graduate.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Thorough understanding of project management.
  • Thorough understanding of information technology procedures and practices. 
  • Proficient with, or able to quickly become proficient with, a range of general and specialized applications, software, and hardware used in the organization and the industry.
  • Ability to work in teams and independently.

Pay and compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, educational background, skills, and training. 

 

Boston Residency is required for the Internship/Fellowship. 

 

Terms:

Non-Union/Hourly Pay $25.00 per hour

Hours per week: 35
