Overview:

This is a Labor Service position.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general supervision, performs maintenance, installation, repair, and inspection work on traffic signals and signal posts; repairs damaged equipment in the shop, including replacing parts and repairing relays.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the installation and replacement of Traffic Signal Mast Arms when necessary.
  • Operates various motor vehicles necessary for the installation and repair of all traffic signal equipment.
  • Loads and unloads necessary tools and equipment on trucks.
  • Operates hydraulic platforms and buckets.
  • Operates hydraulic crane with wire rope on truck.
  • Works in stock room.
  • Assists in the receipt of goods and equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly work and grounds area.
  • May be required to work any five consecutive days, including evening or weekend shifts.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have two (2) years of experience in the trade requiring electrical skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

Certificate Requirement:

  • Must be able to obtain MADL within 6 months of hire. 
  • A current driving record from the RMV must be submitted with the application.
  • Preferred: Current and valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement. MA Dept. of Public Safety hoisting engineers license Class 1B.

 

Civil Service Applicants Preferred.

Boston Residency Required.
