Overview:

Under the Direction of the Senior Deputy Commissioner, the Facilities Technology Manager will work closely with contracted vendors, program managers, and the Department of Innovation and Technology to improve, maintain, and troubleshoot facilities technology, including Building Information Models (BIM), building controls systems, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Lighting applications, Audio Visual equipment and infrastructure and all other technology, hardware and software solutions related to the successful operation of City of Boston Buildings.

 

The City of Boston Property Management Department's (PMD) mission is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings, including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and reduce operating costs through effective preventative maintenance measures.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages audiovisual equipment and software installation and maintenance across buildings in the Property Management Department's portfolio, including, but not limited to, conference room equipment, large meeting room equipment, digital signage, and public address systems. 
  • Works closely with Building Systems Controls vendors and Department field technicians to manage, improve, update, and ensure the high availability of new and existing building automation (BAS), direct digital control (DDC), HVACR controls, energy management, human-machine interface (HMI) and room automation systems.
  • Troubleshoots issues with facilities technology hardware and software.
  • Provides support for users, applications, and user-level workflows and configurations for facilities technology hardware and software.
  • Train staff and technicians using facilities technology platforms, manage and maintain access and logins, and work with the Department of Innovation and Technology to ensure proper access and permissions are provisioned and maintained. 
  • Liaises with the Public Facilities Department on new construction and renovation projects, determining proper hardware and software solutions and ensuring that the designed options are compatible with existing Department systems. 
  • Manages the Department's electronic models and drawings portfolio to ensure that they are maintained, updated, and integrated with various applications as required.
  • Assists in defining and documenting standard operating procedures and user guides for facilities systems functions and users.
  • Assists in the identification and execution of opportunities for workflow, process, and systems improvements based on department goals of improving customer service and efficiency.
  • Provides AV and Building Systems support, setup, and troubleshooting for events, conferences, and meetings, as required.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with Department employees and private contractors to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Serves as the on-call employee on a scheduled basis to respond to emergency building systems issues during non-working hours.
  • Supervises the work of contractors as required.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in facilities management, information technology, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of experience installing and managing audio-visual systems, facilities technology, building automation systems, HVACR control systems, DDCs, HMIs, and other critical building and HVAC automation and control technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of suitable audio-visual and video conferencing solutions and how to best spec, procure, and manage those solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of automated systems, network infrastructure, and IT security.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in facility management of commercial buildings. 
  • Must be able to respond to emergency service calls during non-working hours, if required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid MA Driver's License.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
