Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty assisting the Director of Human Resources, Office of Streets with a wide variety of administrative functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Composes correspondence.
  • Calculates and executes personnel documents such as step raises, official memoranda and reports.
  • Uses the PeopleSoft Human Resources program to obtain necessary personnel data.
  • Maintains confidential personnel records and files.
  • Explains personnel policies and procedures.
  • Manages and oversees Managing Attendance program and keeps statistics regarding the same.
  • Prepares correspondence and memoranda to be sent to other city and state departments relative to civil service matters.
  • Answers the telephone and assists callers requesting verification of employment, personnel information, or connects them to proper employees.
  • Files all personnel documents.
  • Performs related work as required. 


Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or Designee. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in office work or business administration, in work the major duties of which include one or more of the following functions: office management, records management, purchasing or personnel administration. 
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Knowledge of Civil Service laws, Managing Attendance Program, and City of Boston personnel policies and procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resources Program preferred. 
  • Strong computer and organizational skills preferred.
  • Appropriate educational substitutions may be made.


BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.

Terms:
Union/Salary Plan/Grade:  AFSCME/RA-14
Hours: 35 per week
