Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Receives, records, and processes all payments of parking tickets, seizure, storage, violation tow, abandoned vehicle, and other fines, fees, penalties, etc., related to motor vehicles and taxes and various municipal assessments.

Responsibilities:

  • Issues registry release forms and verifies the accuracy of interest computed on delinquent tax bills and other municipal assessments.
  • Inspects all monies carefully to note counterfeit bills and spurious coins.
  • Receives parking violation-related bills, tax bills, and various municipal assessment bills for all monies deposited.
  • Prepares/generates daily collection sheets and records totaling the amount of checks, cash, and other instruments of payment received; balances the total monies against the total monies received.
  • Processes payment transactions for the sale of the Boston Meter Card.
  • Answers questions and performs transactions related to inquiries regarding the amount owed and departmental policies and procedures.
  • When on rotation assignment, will perform data entry and customer service inquiry, and dispute-related duties, including correspondence, phone, and in-person service.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in bookkeeping or accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of various municipal parking and motor vehicle-related assessments, taxes, and other assessments and revenue. 
  • Knowledge of laws pertaining to the Transportation Department and the Boston Treasury Department-Collection Division. 
  • Knowledge of business math. 
  • Skill in operating computer terminals, credit, debit, and other transaction terminals. 
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.  
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.   

 

Preferred Qualifications:

One (1) year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a trained teller or equivalent combination of the required experience at a bank or equivalent institution.
