This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Highway Maintenance, exercises close supervision of the work of an assigned Highway District in the City of Boston.

Responsibilities:

  • Includes all work required for or related to street cleaning.
  • Minor street and sidewalk repairs, and assigned street sanding.
  • Salting, snow plowing and snow removal for the proper maintenance of street conditions in that district.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least (a)  (3) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, construction or maintenance of highways, streets or roadways, of which (b) at (1) least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and practices of snow removal, street repair, care of tools and equipment, laws, rules, regulations and policies pertaining to this position preferred.
  • Knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles and practices preferred.
  • Ability in written and oral expression preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts license.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.

 

Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: AFSCME/RA1-17

Hours: 40 per week
