Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

The Public Facilities Department (PFD) provides professional project management services for design and construction projects at City-owned buildings throughout Boston. We work in conjunction with and on behalf of user agencies by managing renovation or new construction projects at buildings where City services are delivered. PFD manages a range of projects valued between $1M - $125M and typically handles an overall caseload of between 80-100 projects valued at more than $500M annually.

 

Brief Job Description:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, the Sr. Project Manager for Schedules will be responsible for the management and oversight of the department's construction and design schedules, including larger scale and highly technical projects, and participate in schedule claims analysis for conformance to project specification.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently review, analyze, and generate a full report of master schedules, baseline, and monthly updates provided by the General Contractor (GC) and/or Construction Management (CM) Firms summarizing any deviations or variances in the critical path, milestones, work complete, procurement, schedule logic, and sequence.
  • Evaluate schedule progress and trends and provide improvement recommendations to the PFD Project Management team.
  • Provide analysis of the contractor’s recovery mitigation plan and Time Impact Analysis (TIA) reports to determine the validity of delay claims and the impact of schedule slippage.
  • Understanding of the Critical Path Method and tools used to compute CPM.
  • Review and approve contractor baselines and schedule updates.
  • Work with PFD Project Managers to monitor key milestones, deliverables, schedule constraints, and delay claims.
  • Assists the Department in improving policies and procedures.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • At least five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in management and oversight of design and construction schedules.
  • Strong working knowledge of Oracle Primavera P6.
  • At least three (3) years of experience building P6 schedules.
  • Strong technology skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience with eBuilder is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with large capital construction projects desired.
  • Project Manager Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and verbal communications skills are preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
