Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

The Support Desk Specialist reports to the Information Technology Division. Reporting directly to the Technical Support Manager, the Support Desk Specialist provides technical support throughout the Boston Police Department.

Responsibilities:

  • PC and virtual desktop setup, installation, and support, including network configuration. This support include preventative maintenance on all PC hardware and software. 
  • Responsible for any desktop client software installation and support. 
  • Responsible for installing and supporting any PC peripheral equipment such as printers, scanners, barcode readers, etc.
  • Performs related work as required.    

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional technical support experience in the information technology field, the major duties of which must have included technical support within a Microsoft OS environment. 
  • It is strongly preferred that candidates have an Associate's degree in computer science and/or current certification for A+ and/or Microsoft certification.
  • Preferred skills include familiarity with network protocols, virtualized environments, and other operating systems. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
