Overview:

The Accreditation Assistant is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the accreditation proof of compliance and duties related to the re-accreditation programs, all aspects of the Boston Police Department's requirements that are necessary to obtain and maintain the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) and for performing administrative work with a minimal degree of supervision. The accreditation assistants report directly to the Accreditation manager. Prepares the bureaus for CALEA and MPAC assessments by coordinating accreditation activities and accomplishing assigned tasks consistent with the Department’s goals and standards established by CALEA and MPAC.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the bureaus in compiling information and documents to meet the required standards for accreditation.
  • Plan and coordinate department accreditation processing.  Complete and submit required reports and forms; maintain appropriate reports and internal communications.
  • Monitor updates of accreditation proofs of compliance files by maintaining expertise in the interpretation of Department rules and regulations, special orders and documents, federal and state statutes and all accreditation standards. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field from an accredited college or University; or an equivalent combination of experience, education, or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform as an accreditation manager.
  • At least (2) two years of progressively responsible experience with CALEA accreditation processes and/or MPAC accreditation processes.
  • Experience in planning, research or experience with the CALEA and/or MPAC standards and the accreditation process.
  • Considerable knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures and techniques. 
  • Experience in law enforcement or criminal justice system; or accreditation and compliance experience in law enforcement, governmental, medical or educational field.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
  • Experience in working independently and solving problems involving complex variables.
  • Experience with completing assignments with time constraints in a timely manner.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Google Suite.
