Brief Job Description:

In August 2024, the City of Boston launched its Office of Climate Resilience to lead City’s all-of-government approach to the impact climate change will have on Boston and its residents. With a roadmap outlined in the City’s Climate Ready Boston plans, this Office focuses on the risks of rising sea levels, increased precipitation, and more frequent and intense heat-waves.

The Office of Climate Resilience accelerates and coordinates the citywide implementation of resilience measures; the Project Manager is central to this work. They support the implementation of critical projects; they help facilitate internal coordination and external communication; and, they perform analysis that shapes the direction of this essential work.

The Project Manager focuses on four key aspects of the work:

Implementation:

• The Project Manager will support the Senior Climate Resilience Project Managers on key initiatives that address climate risk -- from the design of coastal resilience infrastructure that protects a neighborhood to scaling programs that provide relief to residents during heat waves. This work may include efforts, among others, to support community engagement, grant applications and grant management, and procurement efforts related to key projects.  

Communication & Outreach:

• The Project Manager will take on key communications and public outreach tasks. This could include drafting and managing the distribution of newsletters, ensuring the content on the Office’s website is clear, compelling and up to date, preparing content for social media, and similar activities.

Coordination:

• The Project Manager will help support the City’s all-of-government approach to implementation. This includes supporting the convening of internal, local, and regional infrastructure agencies and operators and tracking progress on core efforts. The project manager may also serve as project liaison with city, state, and federal agencies, utility companies, and inspection bodies involved in this work.

Research & Analysis:

• The Project Manager will conduct analysis to help shape the project priorities of the Office and the administration. This may also include the research of best practices, the identification of funding opportunities, and the drafting and management of grant applications.

The Project Manager will also perform other related work as required.

• Four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in environmental science or policy, urban planning, engineering, business, or a related field.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational and project management skills. 
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse interests and backgrounds. 
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Experience with GIS, Drupal, and Adobe Suite preferred.

• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
