Overview:

The Dispatcher plays a key role at the Age Strong Shuttle, serving as a key communicator and problem solver. The position is responsible for efficiently managing day-of dispatch operations.  

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily route schedule and related adjustments, dispatch and track all rides, monitor traffic flow, track driver logs, address real-time issues, and re-route rides as needed.  
  • Coordinate field staff and manage day-of ride schedules.
  • In collaboration with the Scheduling Manager, ensure efficiency in daily driving operations. 
  • Responsible for day of vehicle assignments based on scheduled and/or immediate needs.
  • Serve as the main communication channel between office staff, drivers, and constituents.
  • Ensure all dispatch equipment is operational, including two-way radios, tablets, etc., and communicate any issues to management.   
  • Serve as backup liaison between the Age Strong Shuttle and the scheduling software company.
  • Serve as a backup Scheduler as needed.
  • Record data and make recommendations to support improved operations. Collaborate with the management team to improve in areas related to scheduling software, operations, dispatch, and customer service. 
  • Compiles and maintains records. Prepares reports and other required documents.
  • Flexible schedule as some nights and weekends are required. 
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in the field of transportation operations, including dispatch, scheduling, and/ or relevant position.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience working with scheduling software and operating two-way radio preferred.
  • Knowledge of Boston’s streets and neighborhoods is preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults preferred.
  • Experience and comfortability working with diverse communities, delivering services to a multiracial, multigenerational, multicultural, and multilingual population. 
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. 
  • Ability to think critically, prepare reports, and make recommendations based on observations.
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in typical office software systems (Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent) preferred. 
  • Bilingual preferred.
