Overview:

This is a grant-funded position, funded through the Multilingual Digital Experience Grant, and expected to last until December 2026 

The Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) is leading the digital transformation of government in the City of Boston. Partnering with almost every City department, we implement technology solutions to modernize business processes, create world-class experiences for our constituents, and develop tools and practices to create a data-driven approach to City operations. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and working closely with the DolTs Special Projects Manager, the City of Boston's Department of Innovation and Technology is seeking an experienced Project Manager to work with DoIT leadership on key strategic projects across various City departments

Responsibilities:

The Project Manager will be highly involved in managing diverse and complex technology and/or business process projects (e.g., software implementations) and will demonstrate a proven ability to work cross-departmentally and with diverse stakeholders to implement organizational change. The project manager will also provide knowledge transfer and support to internal stakeholders post-implementation. 

 

The Project Manager in the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):

  • Works with all organizational levels, groups, and external vendors and continuously briefs the Chief of Staff or other City Leaders on where all projects stand.
  • Develops and manages project plans, identifies and manages risks, and establishes ongoing clear communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Produces tools, templates, process documents, and other materials with other project management staff in DoIT and other departments, especially for those assigned projects. 
  • Creates, develops, and maintains all project management documentation and reporting for assigned projects.
  • Assists with creating and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and governance models related to assigned projects. · 
  • Performs related work as required. 

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional project management experience. A bachelor's degree in business, IT systems, computer science, or a related field is highly desired and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. 
  • Experience in the public sector is highly desired. 
  • Experience with Contact Center software is highly desired.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices in project management. 
  • Ability to self-manage, troubleshoot, and understand when to escalate sensitive priorities &/or raise issues with executive staff/stakeholders.
  • Offer excellent personal and team management, as well as diplomatic skills. 
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills and have demonstrated an ability to work effectively in a hierarchical team environment.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on details as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED -

You must live within Boston city limits at the start of your employment. Residency will be verified.

 

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/ MM1-8
