Overview:

The office of youth employment and opportunity (YEO) manages and oversees the successlink youth employment program during the summer and school year. We employ, develop, and engage Boston’ youth by exposing them to the workforce and bridging opportunities for personal and professional growth. Our goal is to create a future where youth are educated, equipped, and empowered to transition successfully into adulthood.

 

To support this mission, YEO is seeking a full-time youth employment coordinator to support the youth hiring and onboarding process and direct management of college-aged interns within YEO. This position is for high-energy and self-motivated individuals with an interest in youth employment services, payroll, management, and youth development. The selected candidate will be a crucial member of the employment team and, under the direction of the Senior Manager of Employment and Payroll, support the management of the day-to-day functions of the college interns and all other employment team priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Intern management and youth recruitment 
    • Provides training and supervision of seasonal college-aged interns to ensure efficient and smooth HR functions such as document verification, onboarding, timesheet processing, and other responsibilities assigned.
    • Supports the management of the Employment team interns’ day-to-day functions.
    • Ensures the implementation of SuccessLink youth employees' hiring and onboarding processes in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Actively monitors the workflow of youth throughout the hiring process and provides data to YEO management concerning the process flow of youth at various stages of the hiring process.
    • Supports youth employment hiring process, ensuring proper paperwork is completed, and the correct documents are submitted.
    • Provides technical assistance to Assistant Hiring Managers (AHMs) interns as challenges arise.
    • Supports the close collaborations with CIty partnerships/employers and connects youth to programs and services.
    • Reviews submissions of partner applications and assess applicants fit for acceptance into the youth job program.
    • Supports city agencies with iCIMS systems navigation to review youth who have applied for jobs.
    • Assists in building and maintaining organizational systems to ensure high operational efficiency of employment programs. 
    • Supports office coverage, answers telephones, and is readily available to guide the interns.
  • Constituents Relationship Management
    • Maintains consistent and regular communication with youth and parents as they navigate the entirety of the employment process. 
    • Serves as first point of contact for youth and parent inquiries and concerns.
    • Provides Program and community resource information to the general public and constituents of the City of Boston. 
  • General
    • Work collaboratively with YEO staff and other relevant team members to be forward-thinking, problem-solve, and address youth and department needs.
    • As needed, supports and participates in general youth engagement and employment activities, events, and special projects.
    • Supports all cross-team collaborations within YEO.
    • Performs related work as determined by the Senior Manager of Employment and Payroll and Development and/or Director/Deputy of YEO or delegate.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 

  • At least two (2) years of experience, or equivalent part-time, professional experience working within the public sector, nonprofit, or with youth service providers in an administrative capacity is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred and may substitute for the required experience or equivalent experience, preferably in the HR field.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and HR technical skills, for instance, familiarity with applicant tracking systems. Adequate proficiency with project management systems. HR management and learning management platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse range of people, including constituents, staff, partners, and city personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates (AHMs) and peers.
  • Proven ability to manage college-aged interns.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently as a part of a team.
  • Experience interacting with young people of different cultures and backgrounds is preferred.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work on multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Suite is a plus.
