Overview:

Performs professional accounting work in the Auditing Department. Work requires the application of accounting theories, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and standards of the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and the use of the City’s ERP financial systems to research, analyze, and report on accounts and financial activities citywide.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, Federal Uniform Guidance audit, and special audits.
  • Reviews the posting of receipts and expenditures to the City’s externally funded ledgers
  • Participates in the planning, organizing, testing, and implementation of ERP financial systems upgrades and modifications.
  • Assists in the planning and development of citywide training related to grant accounting transactions and financial analysis.
  • Provides technical assistance to departments and agencies regarding Federal regulations and City policies and procedures.
  • Assists in preparing information for the timely and accurate completion of report requirements, such as Official Statements, Basic Finance Statements, Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports, Massachusetts School Building Authority reporting and audits, other federal and state report requirements, and similar items.
  • Assists and participates in the activities of the Boston Public School’s Student Activity and Before and After School Funds to ensure funds are compliant with the updated Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations.
  • Performs complex system transactions and related business processes, such as data uploads, transfers, closing of grants, and similar work.
  • Ensures the accuracy of financial transactions to the General Ledger for financial reporting purposes.
  • Ensures transactions and charges are compliant with city procedures, rules, and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Establishes and maintains interdepartmental lines of communication. Assists City department staff with error resolution, questions, and reporting requirements.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree with a major in accounting or business administration or equivalent is preferred.
  • At least four (4) years of full-time professional experience or business experience in a related field.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other ERP applications preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
