Overview:

The Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement (MOIA) works to strengthen the ability of immigrants and Boston’s diverse cultural and linguistic communities to fully participate in the economic, civic, social, and cultural life of Boston.


Under the direction of the Strategic Communications Manager: The Community Relations Coordinator will focus on community outreach and relationship building, expands and strengthens MOIA’s services in diverse immigrant communities, manages MOIA’s social media accounts, and provides logistical support to special projects and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates a strategic outreach plan to engage with immigrant communities not currently engaged with MOIA, including identifying their needs and developing a work plan to address the needs.
  • Develops a database of MOIA’s existing and new community partners that includes but is not limited to information about neighborhood and community served, contact information, and community needs.
  • Develops and launches new community engagement activities/events to address community needs identified in the outreach strategic plan.
  • Leads, plans, and executes MOIA’s programs and priorities (1. Immigrant Information Corners, 2. Annual Citizenship Day, 3. Know Your Rights presentations, 4. Community Presentations, etc.) to expand and strengthen immigrant community awareness of and access to MOIA’s services.
  • Maintains current MOIA relationships with immigrant communities with regularly scheduled meetings (phone calls, webinars, video calls, etc.).
  • Under the direction of the Strategic Communications Manager, works to promote MOIA and other City programs and priorities through MOIA’s website and social media.
  • Maintains organization and growth of contact lists (community organizations, government entities, media, etc.).
  • Supervises Community Engagement intern.
  • Supports the Constituent Services Coordinator with language needs where needed.
  • Builds strong relationships with city departments, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Attends events, meetings, resource fairs to represent MOIA.
  • Serves as a MOIA liaison to the general public.
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned.
  • Participates in regular office responsibilities, including phone coverage and constituent services.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have at least three (3) years of full time, or equivalent part-time experience in development and implementation, organization of training and community events.
  • Bachelor’s degree can be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to organize and inspire cooperation and collaboration.
  • Experience in group facilitation, organizing training, and community events preferred.
  • Strong skills and experience in social media.
  • Graphic design proficiency.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the diverse immigrant communities across Boston.
  • Fluency in English and Haitian Creole or French or Spanish is preferred (additional languages are a plus).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend events.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
