This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Electrical Engineer, Principal Electrical Engineer, and Assistant Electrical Engineer, performs elementary sub-professional engineering work in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in electrical work, performing assigned tasks within the Street Lighting Division involving some knowledge of electrical engineering practices. This includes drafting plans and translation of simple schematics of electrical circuits as well as a variety of ordinary engineering calculations in the office.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a working knowledge of simple arithmetic, plane geometry, elementary algebra, drafting and tracing.
  • Ability to make simple mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Ability to use hand tools and simple engineering equipment and make neat, accurate detail drawings, tracings, and lettering. 
  • Must be able to understand and carry out instructions effectively. 
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on detail as required by the job. 
  • Some knowledge of electrical circuits and drafting methods is preferred. 
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and specifications is preferred. 
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft computer programs is preferred.  
  • Experience related to electrical engineering or similar work is preferred.
