Provides general basic repairs to buildings, grounds and equipment to include electrical service, HVAC systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, roof repairs, snow removal, landscaping, and masonry repairs, picks up delivers supplies, equipment and vehicles, picks up, cleans and delivers bunker gear, prepares, cuts and install window shades, services and cleans ground and aerial ladders, performs general maintenance and janitorial services. Responds to location requested work orders.


  • General knowledge of power tools along with a basic knowledge of building components, electrical systems, plumbing, painting and carpentry with ability to repair.
  • Operate equipment such as various power tools, snow blower, lawn mower, weed & brush cutters, floor washing machine, buffers, floor strippers, and mechanical sweeper. 
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency service requests.
  • Effectively prioritizes work.
  • Completes work order correctly with minimal call backs.
  • Responds to after hours and weekend needs.
  • Inspects facilities on a routine basis and repairs items as required.
  • Closes out work orders upon completion.
  • Assists with projects as required (painting, cleaning, moving furniture etc.).
  • Provides minor office relocations of furniture or contents.
  • Communicates in a pleasant and competent manner with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, tools and materials.
  • Performs all work in a safe manner within regulation guidelines, codes and standards and BFD guidelines using appropriate tools and personal protection devices.
  • Cleans and inspects vehicles that employees operate.
  • Must be aware and responsible for all safety regulations and compliance issues that affect their area.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Education: High School degree or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience in a maintenance field.
  • Must be able to lift 45+ lbs.
  • Ability to stand for three to six (3-6) hours per day.
  • Ability to use stairs.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to use a copier, phone, and fax machine.
  • MS Office and Microsoft Word skills preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.

Hours: 40/week
