This is a provisional appointment.
Under the direct supervision of Criminalists II-IV within the Crime Lab, analyze items of evidence.
This position is in the DNA Section of the Laboratory. Under the direction of the Technical Leader and Supervisor of the DNA Section, performs chemical, biochemical and genetic analyses of evidence for the purpose of identification and genetic characterization of physiological fluids using DNA typing methods (PCR). Before assuming casework responsibilities, the Criminalist shall complete a comprehensive DNA analyst training program.
The analyst shall have a bachelor’s (or its equivalent) or an advanced degree in biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area. The analyst shall have successfully completed coursework (graduate or undergraduate level: 3 courses totaling at least 9 cumulative semester hours of laboratory and/or lecture based coursework) covering the following subject areas: biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology. The analyst shall have also successfully completed coursework (graduate or undergraduate level) covering statistics and/or population genetics.
Master's degree in a natural science, forensic science, or closely related field preferred.
Certification in appropriate discipline (e.g. ABC) preferred.
