Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


Under the guidance of the Program Manager and with the support of office leadership, this position works to improve equitable access to nutritious food with respect to affordability, physical accessibility, educational awareness, and cultural appropriateness.The program coordinator will provide recruitment, training and outreach and other program coordination and operational support in all aspects of the Double Up Food Bucks program and other initiatives, including Farmers Markets coupons, that support access to affordable, healthy food and regional food systems. The program coordinator will focus on the expansion and sustainability of programs, conduct outreach to the community to increase awareness and support program evaluation. The program coordinator will support the program manager with recruitment, training and outreach, program and operational support and evaluation as follows:

The program coordinator will support the program Manager to develop new recruitment strategies, provide training and ongoing monitoring and support for food stores and farmers markets, will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program including financial organization, documentation and reporting, outreach material management and delivery and relationship management with partners across the City, and will also support field-based and office-based evaluation strategies, which may include developing and administering surveys, and reviewing and organizing program data.


  • Supports the recruitment and implementation of additional corner stores and bodegas for the Boston Double Up Food Bucks program, regularly check-in with stores throughout program implementation; collect feedback and implement program improvements; ensure participating stores have the necessary equipment and training;monitor stores for compliance; and build relationships with community organizations and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to meet program recruitment and participation goals.
  • Supports the program manager to provide training and technical assistance to participating stores and farmers markets and related healthy food access initiatives in Boston; design training materials; and support facilitation of training for owners and staff/volunteers of food stores and farmers markets.
  • Assists the program manager in building capacity and awareness of food access programs, ensure program guidelines are reflective of community needs and build and maintain good relationships with store owners and staff, market managers, vendors, and community members.
  • Supports Office of Food Justice outreach and communications by designing and distributing outreach materials to program participants, targeted audiences and and supporting outreach plan development. Program coordinator also works closely with office leadership to support communications through social media and internal and external coordination of key messages and community engagement.
  • Manages monthly data collection, reporting, reimbursement requests from participating stores and markets; create and ensure invoices are submitted for reimbursements; provide assistance and troubleshooting for data collection methods; and provide support to seasonal work plans by tracking project performance and assisting in reporting and invoicing.
  • Supports program manager to implement evaluation strategies; to assess program impacts, determine value and achievement of program goals, identify potential best practices and lessons learned.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:


  • Minimum of two (2) years of full, or equivalent part-time experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preference for: Experience, including community experience, in food systems, food policy, nutrition, public health, education, public policy, public service, community organizing, or another related field.
  • Experience professionally or personally in implementing, executing, and monitoring programs.
  • Experience facilitating training that includes technical information. Able to tailor training and outreach messages to different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Experience working in low-wealth communities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets preferred.
  • Proficient with Google Suite, social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.
  • Experience/willingness to learn website editing.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
