Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Overall planning responsibility for the Area Agency on Aging and the Elderly Commission as mandated under the Older Americans Act. Research and develop priorities for Title III-B Older Americans Act funds in conjunction with the Advisory Council, Planning sub-committee and information dissemination on needs of Boston's older adults.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops annual and multi-year Area Plan in conjunction with the Advisory Council, Planning Subcommittee, Task Forces and AAA Staff.
  • Oversees the Area Agency on Aging Title III programs.
  • Staffs planning subcommittee, provide technical assistance in determining priorities for Title III-B Older Americans Act Social Service funds.
  • Supervises committee Staff working with Task Forces in various Elderly Health Care, Social and Legal Services, Nutrition and Senior Centers.
  • Reviews and makes funding recommendations for distribution of Title III funds in conjunction with AAA Staff.
  • Provides technical assistance to Community Agencies in conducting needs assessments and determine needs, grant writing, program development, outreach and other service delivery issues.
  • Determines the needs of Boston’s Elders based on needs assessments surveys, census information, secondary data, collections and needs expressed through public hearings.
  • Supervises Programs Monitors with the compilation of statistical information and monthly reports.
  •  Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have five (5) years of full time, or equivalent part-time, experience in human service and/or community development. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • Strong writing and communication skills preferred.
  • Proficient (or ability to learn) computers skills preferred.
  • Human Services planning experience, preferable with elderly services preferred.
  • Grantsmanship and program development, experience preferred.
  • Research and analytic skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with the aging network, the Older American Act and other related organization and legislation preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret and respond to federal and state regulations preferred.
  • Ability to direct committee composed of professionals and elders preferred.
  • Some previous direct service experience preferred. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
