The Engineering Division is responsible for the attainment of a State of Good Repair (SOGR) and multi-modal functionality of an asset portfolio in excess of $6.2 Billion, including forty (40) bridges and eight hundred (800) miles of roadway.
Under direction of the Principal Civil Engineer, the Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for performing engineering duties that support the Public Works Department’s mission of maintaining, enhancing, and evolving the public rights of way in the city of Boston. Undertakes assigned design engineering work required for or related to the preparation and completion of all preliminary and final engineering designs, plans, detail designs, calculations, estimates, and public bids for the construction, or reconstruction of streets and related installations in the city of Boston.
Overview:
Under the direction of the Cataloging and Processing Manager, leads both special cataloging projects and retrospective cataloging projects at the Boston Public Library. Responsible for developing internal workflows and standards, developing and implementing project goals and objectives, reviewing work of staff assigned to projects, and maintaining project statistics as directed. Actively contributes original and complex copy cataloging for materials in all formats for the Library’s special and retrospective projects.
Reports to:
Cataloging and Processing Manager or delegate.
Supervises:
As assigned, professional and support staff.
Position Overview:
Under direction of the Community Learning Supervisor, responsible for carrying out the library’s workforce development program in the neighborhoods, both in branches and in non-library locations, and to assist jobseekers in key areas such as career discovery and planning, interviewing skills, resume writing, certification preparation, and then connecting clients with jobs through career fairs, and other placement opportunities.

The Mayor’s Office of Human Services works to deliver the services, resources and opportunities that all Boston residents need to thrive. The Office of Human Services is currently seeking a Special Projects and Communications Manager to work on key strategic projects and to collaborate closely with our cabinet team and departments on achieving shared projects and communications goals. The Carbon Neutrality team is responsible for the Environment Department’s work in developing and implementing the City’s greenhouse gas mitigation efforts, specifically in the built environment.
Reporting to the Tree Maintenance Foreperson or General Tree Maintenance Foreperson, or a designee, the Tree Equipment Operator and Laborer (TEOL) will perform tasks related to the planting, removal, maintenance, and care of trees using hand and power tools, and adhering to all safety policies and procedures. Duties include planting, pruning, and removing trees and branches. He/she will also use climbing gear and equipment to climb trees with chainsaws, hand saws, and tree trimmers to complete jobs. This is labor-intensive work and requires strong communication skills to safely work with all crew members at the various job sites throughout the City of Boston.
This is a temporary, capital project-funded position for approximately three to five years or until the ending of the project.

The City of Boston Law Department provides legal services to the Mayor, City Council and City departments regarding their official capacities within the City government. Our office has been in continuous existence for 180 years and under the sole authority of the Corporation Counsel for 125 years. The Corporation Counsel has supervisory authority over all City attorneys and legal affairs and is responsible for all litigation to which the City of Boston is a party.
The City of Boston seeks an Assistant Corporation Counsel to represent the City, Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, and Boston Public Schools before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. The incumbent will perform legal research, draft and review ordinances, and prepare opinions on legal issues in civil actions, arbitrations, administrative hearings, mediations, and other negotiations.
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the personnel and labor obligations, procedures and systems covering all Boston Public Library personnel and positions; in conjunction with the Library and City of Boston systems, policies and leadership, especially the City of Boston Offices of Human Resources and Labor Relations.
These include administrative, technical and professional duties in the areas of: position development, classification & compensation; vacancy management; recruitment, selection & onboarding; labor relations; performance appraisal, benefits administration, civil service responsibilities; and a coordinating role in ongoing staff and professional development; as well as technical work in developing, maintaining and ensuring compliance with the personnel policies and procedures of the Library. The Policy Advisor & Legal Affairs Liaison is a key role on the BPL Leadership team with two key primary areas of responsibility. First, working in close cooperation with the City of Boston’s Corporation Counsel (CC)’s office and the designated City of Boston legal counsel for the library, the liaison role acts as a bidirectional conduit for legal questions and matters, may take lead on matters when delegated by CC or at the direction of the President; this role acts primarily as a resource for staff and for Trustees of the library (in the exercise of their duties and responsibilities as Trustees. No action may be taken and no advice given on matters that are within the formal purview of CC unless directed to do so. Second, the role acts as the primary reviewer and policy researcher for internal matters of policy and policy matters of interest and public interest specific to the work of the library in serving the public generally, across its local, national and international contexts.
The Boston Public Library is both a department of the City of Boston and a separately incorporated entity for certain purposes, i.e. as a library. In its legal role, this position is oriented to supporting Corporation Counsel in the development of guidance for the library staff in the exercise of their duties.
