Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


Under the direction of the Assistant Traffic Markings Supervisor, the Traffic Markings Operations Foreperson supervises employees and performs work necessary for the installation and maintenance of traffic pavement markings, signs, delineators, and other traffic control devices in the public’s way.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements temporary traffic control plans and detours for work sites to safely facilitate road users through or around work zones.
  • Assists with supervision and the use of specialty equipment and tools in the application of traffic marking paint and thermoplastic pavement markings, signs, delineators, and other traffic control devices.
  • Ensures pavement markings, signs, and delineators are installed according to MUTCD standards, plans, and specifications.
  • Inspect work and review maintenance records of the work performed for data completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs on-site training for new unit employees.
  • Supervises the cleaning, maintenance, and care of vehicles, equipment, and tools required for the unit’s work and troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment as defined by the manufacturer’s guidelines and requirements.
  • Updates asset data, work orders, and tasks in Cartegraph. Conducts daily inspection of tools and equipment.
  • Assumes daily operations duties of the Assistant Supervisor in their absence.
  • Updates and maintains an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Performs related duties as required by the job.

 

Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Transportation or designee.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the application and installation of traffic marking paint and thermoplastic pavement markings is preferred and experience with the installation of signs, delineators, and other traffic control devices is desired. Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings is required.
  • Must be willing to obtain working knowledge of the City of Boston Traffic Rules and Regulations, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, and related standards that serve as guidelines for traffic marking application and installation.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required.


Willingness to work overnight shifts from May through November.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT: Possession of Massachusetts Class D or higher Drivers License.
