Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner and the Director of Constituent Services, Community Liaisons assist with responding to departmental inquiries and concerns towards compliance with ISD code. Liaisons assist with outreach and help facilitate the delivery of City services. Assists with the preparation of files and representation of the Inspectional Services Department at community meetings and functions, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Represents the Department and Assistant Commissioner of Constituent Services at hearings, before various boards and commissions, and at community meetings and events.
  • Takes notes of the needs and concerns of various communities articulated at neighborhood meetings and events, monitors and reports back on the department's process relative to said needs and concerns.
  • Assists the Assistant Commissioner of Constituent Services or designee with the organization of community/neighborhood meetings as needed.
  • Conducts outreach for the department to communicate and promote its initiatives, programs, and other related information.
  • Collects, tracks, and prepares reports on constituent services matters to assist the department in managing constituent inquiries, concerns, and requests received through various channels, including but not limited to emails, 311 service requests, community meetings, community walks, the Mayor's office, and from other elected officials.
  • Report significant issues and trends to the Assistant Commissioner of Constituent Services.
  • Assist the Assistant Commissioner with Language and Communication Access/Translation Services.
  • Assist the Assistant Commissioner with ZBA ambassador duties.
  • Serves as the Division point of contact for Mayor's Office Neighborhood Coordinators, Constituent Services Representatives from city and state agencies, elected officials, Civic Associations, and community leaders/organizers.
  • Prepares briefings for Assistant Commissioner of Constituent Services and Commissioner of Inspectional Services on Constituent Services-related matters.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Passionate about public service, with strong customer service skills. 
  • Two to three (2-3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in related work required. 
  • A Bachelor's degree can be substituted for the required experience.
  • Knowledge of the codes and ordinances that ISD enforces and administers, as well as familiarity with inspection and permitting procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within the department and citywide to provide excellent constituent services.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to multitask while managing a large volume of work.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products and familiarity with permitting software and/or 311 case management tools strongly preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. 
  • A multi-lingual candidate is preferred.
