Overview:

The City of Boston Finance Commission is an independent watchdog agency with oversight over any and all business of the City of Boston. The Policy and Information Specialist provides as-needed support for office operations, including contract review and management, document and information requests, and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, collate, and verify data from multiple sources may assist with the implementation of data software.
  • Review interview responses and other data sources and ensure data quality.
  • Prepare reports, charts, and/or graphs for varying documents and written and oral presentations.
  • Collaborate with the team to help integrate data into reports.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings within programs and operations.
  • Research applicable laws, directives, regulations, and policies to gain knowledge of the areas being reviewed.
  • Research and organize information.
  • Enhance knowledge and understanding of municipal government and contracting practices as they relate to government accountability.
  • Work independently to research and report information regarding investigations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships to assist in information collection and research.
  • Manage multiple projects consecutively.
  • Attend Finance Commission meeting.
  • Perform related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional-related experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Experience in municipal contracts and strong knowledge of M.G.L. 30B.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and protect sensitive data.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines with multiple priorities.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail in a fast-paced environment as required by the job.
