Brief Job Description:

The Fire Prevention Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing fire prevention education programs and initiatives within the community. This role aims to enhance public awareness and understanding of fire safety practices, reduce fire-related incidents, CRR (Community Risk Reduction,), and promote a culture of safety.

The Fire Education Coordinator is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and organizing data related to fire prevention and safety initiatives. This role plays a vital part in supporting grant-writing activities by providing accurate and compelling data to showcase the impact of educational programs and to secure funding for future initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the grant-writing team to provide accurate and up-to-date data for grant proposals.
  • Assists in creating compelling narratives and statistics to strengthen grant applications.
  • Develops and recommends comprehensive fire prevention education programs tailored to diverse audiences, including schools, businesses, community groups, and individuals.
  • Designs educational materials, presentations, and resources to effectively communicate fire safety information.
  • Collaborates with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to promote fire safety awareness.
  • Organizes and conducts outreach events, workshops, and training sessions to engage the community in fire prevention activities.
  • Increase Fire Prevention Education Unit participation in other local civic group meetings.
  • Conducts training sessions for various groups on fire safety, evacuation procedures, and the proper use of firefighting equipment.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in fire prevention and safety to ensure educational materials and programs are up-to-date.
  • Ability to present fire education programs and fire safety information one-on-one and in large group settings in an efficient manner.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant agencies, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance the reach and impact of fire prevention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with emergency services, schools, and other entities to coordinate joint efforts in promoting fire safety.
  • Collect and analyze data related to fire incidents and prevention efforts.
  • Prepare reports on the effectiveness of education programs, identifying areas for improvement and recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Effectively communicate fire safety messages through various channels, including social media and community newsletters.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public regarding fire prevention and safety measures.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in fire science, education or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in fire prevention education or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of fire safety regulations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in a second language is preferred such as Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, etc.
  • Proficient in using technology and multimedia tools for educational purposes.
  • Passion for promoting fire safety and community well-being.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with people of all ages.
