Overview:

The Policy Assistant within the Policy Team in the Mayor’s Office is responsible for managing administrative and operational responsibilities related to policymaking, policy communications, and policy-related community engagement, This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating and facilitating the scheduling of internal and external stakeholders; managing the overall organization of materials for the Policy Team, including briefing materials for the Mayor and senior staff; and assisting on policy initiatives. The position frequently acts as a liaison to administration officials as well as external stakeholders, and residents of Boston. The position may have exceptional opportunities for growth and offers a high level of hands-on experience for the right individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the calendar for the Policy Team, in particular the daily calendar of the Chief of Policy, such as planning and coordinating all details related to meetings and events; 
  • Assist with the preparation of written materials for policy team members and internal and external meetings;
  • Perform administrative functions including emails and other inquiries and responding promptly and courteously;
  • Supports the policy team on signature projects and coordinate meetings of the broader policy and senior advisors group;
  • Represent the Mayor's Office in a professional manner;
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt communication style to different communities and audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; willingness to work as part of a multicultural team; commitment to building genuine, respectful relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building, civic engagement, equity and justice.
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and in high-stress situations
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment; maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
