Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

This position will be assigned to the Telecommunications Management Group. 

Responsibilities:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general supervision, the Senior Radio Communication Technician performs skilled, technical work of considerable difficulty in the repair, maintenance, calibration, installation, operation, and modification of telecommunication and electronic equipment for the Boston Police Department, as well as related duties as required. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, work experience in repairing and maintaining a variety of digital and analog telecommunication and electronic equipment, such as radio transmitters and receivers, antenna systems and multicouplers, digital voice recorders, telephone systems, command and control consoles, mobile data systems, IP camera systems, and vehicle locators.  
  • Applicants must have a working knowledge of applicable Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules and Regulations. 
  • It is strongly preferred that applicants possess a valid General Class or higher FCC license, or a technician certification from NABER or APCO.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. 
  • A degree or formal training in telecommunications or related field is preferred.
