Overview:

The Mayor’s Office of Human Services works to deliver the services, resources and opportunities that all Boston residents need to thrive. The Office of Human Services is currently seeking a Special Projects and Communications Manager to work on key strategic projects and to collaborate closely with our cabinet team and departments on achieving shared projects and communications goals. This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief, Human Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting cabinet-level and interdepartmental special projects, including but not limited to projects related to food access, mentoring, youth sports, and older adult programming.
  • Develop project plans and interface with internal and external partners, as needed, to ensure that projects are on-track to be completed.
  • Regularly communicate with cabinet leadership on project status and proactively identify challenges to meet timelines.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Director, develop strategic marketing initiatives and activities.
  • Maintain an annual marketing and outreach calendar including events, workshops, appearances, and other opportunities.
  • Assist the Communications Director in strengthening the Human Services’ overall brand through existing and new avenues.
  • In collaboration with other cabinet and department team members, support procurement activities for the cabinet.
  • Create, develop and maintain all project management documentation and reporting for assigned projects.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full time, or equivalent part time, project or program management experience (1 year may be substituted with an Associate’s degree; 2 years may be substituted with a Bachelor’s degree).
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in the public sector is highly desired.
  • Proven ability to work cross departmentally and with diverse stakeholders to implement organizational change.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices in project management.
  • Ability to self-manage, troubleshoot, and understand when to escalate sensitive priorities &/or raise issues with executive staff/stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, and Google Suite.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, and Vietnamese).
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
