Overview:

Quality Manager of the Forensic Division

Responsibilities:

  • May assist director(s) in interviewing and hiring new section employees.
  • Maintain/control unit/section-specific manuals.
  • Administer proficiency testing program.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits of laboratory sections as required by ANAB.
  • Facilitate professional development for employees.
  • Monitor courtroom testimony of employees.
  • Prepare and implement corrective action(s) for identified, non-conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards. 
  • Maintain and update the Quality Manual with approved revisions
  • Plan activities associated with accreditation. 
  • Research and prepare quality assurance policies. 
  • Prepare administrative and quality assurance-related reports.
  • Ensure a timely response to all inquiries made by external accreditation bodies.
  • Assist with the managing of laboratory safety policies. 
  • Facilitate instrument calibration and preventive maintenance for equipment.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 Basic Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Full knowledge of the ISO 17025 standards and ANAB supplemental requirements.
  • Full knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Forensic Group.
  • Extensive quality experience. 
  • Ability to write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Ability to design validation studies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to supervise projects.
  • Ability to make managerial decisions.
  • Ability to problem solve / troubleshoot.

 

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a natural science, forensic science, or closely related field required.  Master’s degree in a natural science, forensic science, or closely related field preferred.  

Experience – Minimum Qualifications 

Five years of total laboratory experience including two years of laboratory management, forensic technical supervision or QA/QC management experience.

It is strongly preferred that applicants have:

  • Knowledge of general forensic testing, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of the practices, techniques, standard test procedures and safety principles followed by and involved in a laboratory.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and explain the provisions of the policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of laboratory data to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
  • Ability to write general, statistical, and technical reports.
  • Ability to maintain records.

 

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK REQUIRED.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG AND PHYSICAL ARE REQUIRED.

BOSTON RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED.
