Overview:

The Mayor’s Office is seeking an experienced, thoughtful and creative Digital Media Storyteller to document and communicate the important work of the City of Boston on Mayor Michelle Wu’s social media platforms.

 

The Digital Media Storyteller will report to the Mayor’s Digital Communications Director and support the Mayor’s Digital Team in advancing Mayor Wu's vision by delivering impactful content that informs and serves the diverse communities of Boston.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and produce innovative digital content aligned with the Mayor's brand style, priorities, and communication and policy objectives.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive digital storytelling strategies across various platforms, produce and publish social media content, and drive narratives online that resonate with Boston residents.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Communications Director, public information officers, and staff from across City departments to create digital content that achieves broader communication goals.
  • Conceptualize, organize, and lead short and long-term video projects showcasing the work of the City of Boston, the people of Boston, and the Mayor’s initiatives.
  • Coordinate productions with City departments and external partners, capture media at in-person events, and produce content along a range of production scales, from Instagram Stories to mini-documentaries.
  • Stay ahead of digital trends and introduce innovative approaches to the Digital Team’s use of social media and the internet.
  • Drive success with short-form content on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital media storytelling, with a portfolio showcasing your ability to create compelling digital content.
  • Proficiency in video editing, capable of producing dynamic and must-watch videos. 
  • Strong technical proficiency; experience with the Adobe Creative Suite/Final Cut Pro; experienced with professional production equipment, including cameras, lights, sound equipment; and comfortable working on location, on the move, and in studio.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of distilling complex ideas into captivating narratives, capable of helping others translate their knowledge and experience into concise and engaging social media content.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects at once, with a readiness to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Experience with building and managing web pages and using Drupal.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and in rapid-response situations, including after 5PM and on weekends as needed.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Desire to be a part of a dedicated team of professionals who support one another, treat each other with respect, and share the same goal of delivering for the people of Boston.

 

Preferred

  • Past experience in government or political work, journalism, activism, or organizing.
  • Experience with social media management and producing a variety of social media content.
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects and motion graphics animation.
  • Familiarity with Facebook Creator Studio, Slack, Google Drive, and project management tools such as Trello and Asana.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English.
