Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the position):

 

Under general direction, assists in the direction and formulation of all programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all aspects of the rental program registration and inspection system.
  • Conducts certifications classes for private authorized inspectors.
  • Attends community meetings as needed.
  • Has responsibility for the enforcement of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding dwelling, including but not limited to, Chapters I & II of the State Sanitary Code, City of Boston codes and City of Boston ordinances.
  • Responsibilities include the training, supervision and direction of subordinate personnel; formulation and analysis of data relative to the Housing Inspection Division's programs; coordination with local, state and federal agencies and community groups.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 

  • Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in the enforcement of the State Sanitary Code of which two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Applicants must possess a thorough knowledge of all State and local regulations related to the health and safety of dwellings.
  • Proficiency in using current computer software such as MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook and PowerPoint is strongly preferred.
  • A Registered Sanitation or applicants with a BA/BS in public health, public administration, business administration, or a related area of study is preferred.
  • Applicant must have the ability to exercise good judgment and be able to focus on details as required by the job.
