Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


Under the supervision of the Director of Recreation, the Recreation Resource Development Manager will oversee and coordinate the planning and fiscal resource development for all Recreation programs and events and assist with the coordination of research, marketing, and community partnership. This position manages the components of the Recreation Department's fund-raising plan, including prospect identification and research; donor cultivation; direct mail campaigns; corporate sponsorship initiatives; and donor communication. Responsibilities also include gift entry, database management, writing and sending thank you letters, grant writing and other correspondences as needed for the division. Coordinate and provide resource development with other Parks and Recreation units/divisions.


  • Develops, implements and maintains system(s) for identifying and tracking public and private funding opportunities and received funds.
  • Designs, develops and implements production of monthly program development newsletter.
  • Works in partnership with the Recreation Program Managers to plan and develop program, fund-raising, data collection, and grant writing assistance.
  • Develops and expands a planning and Resource Development Library.
  • Assists with the development and coordination of research, trend/status reports, and surveys that provide data and key findings on Boston's youth sports programming.
  • Assists in the overall public relations, marketing, and community outreach through various means. Assist with various projects and initiatives, as assigned.
  • Performs related work as required. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing or relevant field of study required..
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with time-lines and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities in a changing work environment.
  • Knowledge of Boston neighborhoods.
  • Knowledge of Boston's non-profit and philanthropy sectors.
  • Knowledge of budget preparations and procedures.
  • Proven knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of Razor's Edge or related fund-raising software preferred.
  • CO.R.I/S.O.R.I checks required.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as require by the job. 

Boston Residency required.




Union/Salary Plan/Grade:  SENA MM1-6
