Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Legal, Supervises Inspectional Services Department’s non criminal disposition of Building, Sanitary, Zoning, Environmental and City of Boston Ordinance violations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the Inspectional Services Department’s non criminal disposition of Building, Sanitary, Zoning, Environmental and City of Boston Ordinance violations, pursuant to G.L c. 40 s. 21D, and G.L. c 40U.
  • Create and implement processes to issue and collect fines that will compliment the Department’s current enforcement protocols.
  • Schedule and supervise all Department Administrative Hearing appeals processes.
  • Supervise ISD Legal Assistants.
  • Maintain various databases related to Short Term Rental, Rental Registration and Foreclosure Registration Ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in the enforcement of codes, of which two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Considerable knowledge of The State Sanitary code, regulatory techniques, and principles and practices of training and supervision preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Google Suite and Excel strongly preferred.
  • Proven organizational skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently under deadline and with sensitivity to confidential matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and managers.

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/MM1-8

Hours per week: 35

City of Boston Residency Required.
