Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direction of the Recreation Director or his/her designee performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, developing and coordinating activities and programs within the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing programs, projects, curriculum regarding the enhancement of sport and recreational activities.
  • Perform studies of organizational structures, methods of operation, staffing patterns and management practices.
  • Collects and interprets data.
  • Establish and strengthens working relations with all levels of sport and community based organizations.
  • Establish and strengthens working relations with youth development organization, scholastic programs, professional franchises, corporations and athletic federations.
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for sports, fitness and recreation programs that integrate all levels of such activity for the benefit of Boston's youth.
  • Manages and oversees all above activities.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the effectiveness of recreational programs to superiors.
  • Prepares reports and analyses of recreational programs.
  • Performs the planning, research and implementation of projects and innovative recreational activities, which promote the use of indoor and outdoor space.
  • Work includes management, planning and research and does related work as required.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift/any assigned work location.
  • Performs related work as required. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time program development or management experience at progressively more responsible levels of which at least two (2) years must have been in a professional capacity.
  • Excellent writing skills, computer literate, good public presentation skills.
  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers License required.
  • Multi-lingual skills preferred.

C.O.R.I check required

Boston residency required

 

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade:  SENA/MM1-6

Hours Per Week: 35
