The City of Boston Law Department seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Chief of Litigation. This is an opportunity to use your legal and leadership skills to support and guide the important work that the City’s departments do to serve our residents, workers, and visitors. The Chief of Litigation will help provide day-to-day supervision for attorneys in the Litigation Division, appear on key cases for the City, and advise policymakers on legal matters. The Litigation Division handles a wide variety of civil litigation in Superior Court and Federal District Court, including employment, civil rights, torts, and unique government matters. Reporting to the First Assistant Corporation Counsel, the Chief of Litigation will be part of the Law Department’s senior leadership team, and will also work directly with Department Heads and other policy makers.
● Juris Doctor.
● At least 9 years experience as a lawyer in a law firm or government legal office.
● Significant civil litigation experience, including experience with discovery and trial work.
● Admission to Massachusetts Bar and current active registration status with the BBO.
● Experience with e-discovery.
● Ability to organize, manage, and supervise litigation matters.
● Ability to produce and guide others in producing quality legal writing.
● Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail.
● Ability to manage a staff of attorneys and support staff.
● Accuracy and attention to detail.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is preferred.
● Ability to exercise sound judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
● Experience in the areas of employment, civil rights, or government is a plus.
BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.
